TheMenInPink.org

Cemetery Plot Program

TheMenInPink.org is pleased to announce a new service we're offering to families who lose a loved one in their battle against cancer. One person dies every 60 seconds in the United States as a result of cancer. A large number of those people cannot afford the cost of a funeral. Part is the cost of a burial plot, niche, mausoleum, or vault.

There are many individuals and families who have found themselves in a position where they have a burial plot, niche, mausoleum, or vault which is going unused. Usually these items stay in the families for generations being handed down from one to another or sold for as little as 10% of the original purchase price.

Because TheMenInPink.org is a 501(c) 3 organization, these plots and other property can be donated at their market value. These properties can then be used to help families through difficult times. This is going to be a nationwide program for our organization. To learn more about how you can donate your property or get help in a time of need click here.

Thank you new supporters!

TheMenInPink.org was established to provide support to the thousands of people who need help as their spouses, significant others, families and friends fight this terrible battle of cancer.

Men have slightly less than a 1 in 2 lifetime risk of developing cancer; for women, the risk is a little more than 1 in 3.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that approximately 10.8 million Americans with a history of cancer were alive in January 2004. Some of these individuals were cancer-free, while others still had evidence of cancer and may have been undergoing treatment.

About 1,437,180 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2008. This estimate does not include skin cancers. More than 1 million cases of skin cancers are expected to be diagnosed this year.

This year, about 565,650 Americans are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease. In the US, cancer accounts for 1 of every 4 deaths.

With every person who develops cancer, there are many others effected.  Primarily, there is a spouse who now becomes the primary caregiver.  This is a whole, new, full-time job for a devoted spouse or significant other. In addition to their job or other responsibilities they must now become an additional set of eyes, ears, mind, and soul of their loved one who begins a battle with cancer. They must also take on the responsibilities of their loved one which may include taking care of their children, parents, and other responsibilities.

TheMenInPink.org was created to help the spouses, significant others, family, and friends of those battling cancer in their efforts to be the best wife, husband, friend, daughter, son, or other relative as their loved one fights this terrible disease.

Each person who fights cancer has different needs. Some may need surgery, some may not. Some may need radiation, some may not. Some will go into remission, some will die. Every set of circumstances is different and requires different needs to be met. Where does one find a wig? Where does one find a hospice?  Where does one find a counselor for themselves as they battle their own mental anguish as they see cancer devastating the body of their loved one? These are just a few of the reasons why TheMenInPink.org was created. There needed to be one place where people could go to find the things they need to help their loved one battle cancer and to help themselves be a better advocate for the one they love.

Hopefully, someday, this site will no longer be necessary. Until then it will grow as necessary to give the help to the millions who are affected by cancer every year.
